Cycle to School

Healthy, environmentally friendly holidays for the whole family.

There are many schools that have some great schemes to encourage kids to cycle to school. With the majority of kids in suburban areas living within 2 miles of their school, cycling to school shouldn't be that difficult. Many schools have ample bike parking and have "cycle to school" days where kids get a free breakfast if they cycle to school.

Not only are there obvious health benefits to the kids, the amount of traffic around schools at peak times can be massively reduced. It's a chicken-and-egg thing. A lot of parents feel their kids aren't safe walking or cycling to school because there is a lot of traffic. But if more kids cycled to school there would be considerably less traffic around the school.

We will be working with local schools to find best practice in this area. Keep watching for progress updates here so you can encourage your local school to participate. In the meantime, feel free to discuss with your children's school the possibility of encouraging more cycling.
